Forbes magazine names AMA one of Canada’s Best Employers for 2019
The Alberta Motor Association is proud to be included on Forbes magazine’s list of Canada’s Best Employers for 2019. AMA is the only automotive-sector employer from Alberta to make the prestigious list this year.
“Before customers can love your company, your employees need to love it,” says JoAnne Gibson, vice-president of human resources for AMA. “We’re on this list because our 1,900 employees have so much passion for this company. At the end of the day, it’s their enthusiasm that helps make AMA the rewarding workplace that it is.”
Forbes’ 2019 list, released Tuesday, rates the Alberta Motor Association 8th of the top automotive-sector employers in the country, and #204 of the nation’s top employers overall.
AMA – part of the CAA family of auto clubs – is an inclusive employer that embraces diversity, provides opportunities for professional growth, and fosters a positive working environment. Every year, AMA donates more than 14,000 volunteer hours to employees, empowering them to help in their community. AMA is also one of the few employers to provide a 100 per cent company-funded defined benefit pension plan.
“To be included on Forbes’ list validates the importance we place on employee engagement, talent development, and work-life balance,” says Gibson. “Now, it’s about taking what we’ve learned about talent retention and building on it, ensuring that AMA continues to be a great place to forge a career.”
Forbes’ annual ranking of employers is based on a representative sample of more than 8,000 Canadian employees, anonymously recruited to share their opinions, with no involvement from their respective employers. Participants rated such topics as working conditions, salary, potential for growth, and company reputation, as well as whether they’d recommend their employer as a good place to work. Only those companies with the highest overall scores were included in the final rankings.
The Alberta Motor Association (AMA) is among the largest membership organizations in Alberta, representing more than 975,000 members. As a leading advocate for traffic safety, travel and consumer protection and crime prevention, AMA represents the interests of its members to industry and all levels of government and helps protect the things they care about most.
