AMA Insurance announces new Chief Operating Officer
Don Smitten, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Alberta Motor Association (AMA), is pleased to announce that Cary Ransome will be joining AMA in mid-March as the new Chief Operating Officer of AMA Insurance Services.
“We are very pleased to welcome Cary to AMA,” said Mr. Smitten. “I am looking forward to his leadership in the implementation of our Insurance Services strategic plan and omni-channel service experience. This is an area where he brings strong leadership, having successfully led the development and implementation of similar initiatives with his previous employer.”
Mr. Ransome is joining AMA from Conexus Credit Union in Regina, SK, where he served as Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer, providing leadership and direction to the member organization. He also brings a wealth of experience in the financial sector, having previously worked in senior leadership roles at Servus Credit Union and TD Bank Financial Group.
“As a membership organization, it’s important to us that the COO of our Insurance operation understands this unique relationship. Cary brings that insight, having held leadership roles within the Credit Union system.”
“We look forward to working with Cary and welcoming him and his family back home to Alberta and Edmonton,” added Smitten. Mr. Ransome holds an MBA from Athabasca University, along with a number of professional designations, including from the Institute of Corporate Directors. He is also deeply committed to community —a cause close to our hearts here at AMA— and has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, United Way, the Regina Food Bank, and other organizations.
Mr. Ransome will replace Mathew Wesolowski as Mr. Wesolowski transitions into retirement, taking on a new role as Vice President, General Counsel, AMA Insurance Company, on an auxiliary basis. “We are grateful to Mr. Wesolowski for his steady leadership since he joined our AMA Legal team in 1996, and serving as COO of AMA Insurance since 2015,” said Smitten.
AMA Insurance Agency and the Alberta Motor Association Insurance Company operate as part of the Alberta Motor Association, which is the largest membership-based organization in Alberta.
AMA Insurance was incorporated as an insurance company in 1974. Today AMA Insurance underwrites, sells and services a wide range of products to AMA members, including auto, home, accident and business insurance. AMA Insurance also sells the products of carefully selected external partners and is supported by internal claims and legal departments.
